Course Overview
The BOPTM is a 5-year undergraduate program ( 4 years academics + 1 year internship) designed to train students to become competent primary eye care professionals. It blends classroom learning, clinical training, and fieldwork to ensure students gain expertise in detecting visual disorders, managing refractive errors, dispensing optical aids, and supporting ophthalmologists in clinical settings.
Curriculum Highlights
• Clinical training in refraction, low vision aids, contact lenses and dispensing optics
• Optometry equipment handling: Retinoscope, Slit Lamp, Autorefractometer
• Community eye care programs and visual screening camps
• Integrated learning in visual therapy, orthoptics, and binocular vision

• Eye OPD at NMCH and satellite vision centres

Admission Criteria
• Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics
• Minimum Marks Required: 50% for General, 45% for SC/ST/OBC
• Selection Process: University entrance exam or merit-based selection
