The Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences (FRS) has been established under Gopal Narayan Singh University (GNSU), Jamuhar, Rohtas, Bihar, to provide Quality Education in the field of Rehabilitation and Special Education to students from all over India, thereby developing Human Resources to bridge the gap between need and demand. This faculty functions as an Independent Academic and Clinical unit within the university, dedicated to advancing Education, Research, and Services in the field of Rehabilitation and Special Education. Our mission is to excel in Teaching, Research, and Leadership in Rehabilitation science to improve the quality of life and well-being of all people in Bihar and beyond. Our goal is to provide high-quality Education and services in Rehabilitation science to achieve National and International recognition for Innovative Research and Graduate programs, high-quality Inter professional Education, and Excellent knowledge Translation.

Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT)

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy (BOT) is an undergraduate degree that focuses on helping people of all ages Develop, Recover, or Maintain the Skills necessary for Daily life (occupations) that may be challenged due to Physical, Mental, or Cognitive difficulties, enabling them to live more independent and fulfilling lives, often through Rehabilitation, Environmental modifications, and Education. This is a four-year Training and one-year Internship program that prepares Graduates for roles in Hospitals, Schools, and Rehabilitation Centers at Government as well as Private Sectors.

Eligibility Criteria:

Pass with Fifty Percent marks in 10 + 2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology
Candidate having Appeared for the NEET

Integrated Special and Inclusive Teacher Education Program (ISITEP)

The Integrated Special and Inclusive Teacher Education Program (ISITEP), is a comprehensive four-year program designed to prepare Educators specializing in teaching children with Hearing Impairments & Intellectual Disability. These two programs approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. This program aligns with the Norms set by the RCI.

The ISITEP is of Four Years Duration across Eight Semesters of study. It is a Dual-major Bachelor's Degree Program, with one major in Special & Inclusive Education and the other in a Disciplinary / Interdisciplinary Branch of knowledge. In addition, the program seeks to develop among Student-Teachers an Ethic of Social Engagement, and Capacities such as Problem Solving, Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking, Communication Skills, Ethical and Moral Reasoning etc. that are necessary for preparing competent Teachers.

The ISITEP aims at the Dual degree of providing student Teachers discipline knowledge along with the Professional knowledge in Special and Inclusive Education in an integrated manner. Since the program will be equivalent to an Undergraduate Degree (B.Sc. /B.A. / B.Com.) and Teacher Education Degree, the curriculum of this program includes different courses and activities essential for both the degrees.
The Integrated Special & Inclusive Teacher Education Program (ISITEP) has been designed to prepare Teachers for children with disabilities who can effectively teach in all kinds of school set ups. This Dual Degree curricular framework, like the ITEP of General Teacher Education Program of NCTE, leads to a Bachelors degree as well as a Degree in Special Education.

The curricular components of ISITEP have been drawn from the Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) so as to have parity with Special and General Education School Teachers and thereby ensuring they are equally valued for their contributions and they have equal opportunities for professional growth as all endeavor towards the same goal: preparing all students to realize their potentials and succeed in life, regardless of their learning needs.

The ISITEP program aims to equip Future Educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to support and Teach children with hearing impairments & Intellectual Disability effectively. The curriculum integrates General Education with specialized training, fostering an Inclusive approach to Education.

Pass with Fifty Percent marks in Senior Secondary or Plus Two Examination

The Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences operates Narayan CARE (Center for Advanced Rehabilitation and Education), a child Rehabilitation center that provides Training, Rehabilitation and Education for the Intellectual, Sensory and Physical Development of children with Special Needs.

The Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences is committed to fostering an inclusive and innovative learning environment through its Best Practices. Through various activities, FRS instills Empathy and a Sense of Social Responsibility in students by engaging them in Community Outreach and Support Programs. Narayan CARE plays a crucial role in promoting Inclusive Education, providing specialized training and research opportunities that Empower Trainee Therapist and Educators to effectively address diverse learning needs. Furthermore, the learning environment serves as a dynamic platform where future Educators gain practical experience through Activity-Based Teaching methods, Real-Time Classroom interactions, and reflective learning approaches. Early Intervention

Early intervention refers to a system of services that supports infants and toddlers with Developmental Delays or Disabilities and their families. These services are designed to identify and address developmental issues as early as possible, ensuring that children have the best possible start in life.
Early intervention is a vital step in ensuring that children with Developmental challenges receive the support they need to thrive. By addressing issues early, we can set the foundation for a brighter future for these children and their families.

 

Assessment/ Counselling

Assessment: 
Every child goes through an evaluation procedure that includes a list of their skills, talents, problems, and capacities. The enhancement program and lesson plan are created based on the findings. Planning and record-keeping for the development programs are done on a regular basis.

Counseling: 
We offer regular counseling sessions to Adults with Special needs as well as to Parents. Our conversations assist us in choosing the best course of action and provide Parents with effective guidance on how to handle stressful situations. Parents are taught about the different types of disability, their advantages and disadvantages, and appropriate methods to use.

Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy Intervention

Children of all ages with Disabilities such Cerebral Palsy, Down syndrome, Autism, ADHD, etc. are entertained by the Narayan CARE. Children receive Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy from Qualified Professionals. Therapists engage in a variety of tasks to guarantee that pupils receive high-quality care.

  1. We deliver our services according to a schedule.
  2. First, we evaluate the pupils' functional and physical needs.
  3. We create a treatment plan that is tailored to the needs of a certain age range.
  4. We provide reviews on a regular basis.
  5. Using the most recent methods, we address issues with Muscle Strength, Range of Motion, Balance, Posture, Sensory Processing, and Behavior.
  6. To improve learning, we emphasize both Group Activities and One-on-one Meetings.
  7. We provide both individualized and generalized care for our kids.
  8. In order to do his or her Daily Routine Activities, we work on increasing the Fine Motor, Gross Motor, and ADL skills.
  9. We provide a friendly and supportive atmosphere for students, inspiring and motivating them to actively participate in the Therapy sessions.
  10. We evaluate, recommend, and go over the tools and supplies that the pupils need. 
  11. We provide parents with counseling and advisory services.

 

Speech Therapy

Techniques used in speech therapy aid in improving communication. Depending on the kind of speech or language impairment, these could involve articulation therapy, language intervention exercises, and other things.
Regular speech therapy sessions can help to improve or repair a variety of speech issues, including expressive, receptive, articulative, fluency, and cognitive-communication.
Depending on the disorder, different approaches are taken. It could involve loudness and production practice to enhance articulations and language parameters, speech drills to improve clarity or sound, or physical training to strengthen the muscles involved in speaking (oral-motor work). At, Centre for Ability we assist children with speech and language disorders of various kinds.

 

Special Education

Narayan CARE focuses on the Joyful learning experiences catered through Individualized Education Program facilitating Socio-Emotional Development aimed at students with multiple Impairments, Intellectual, Physical, Hearing, Speech-language or Autistic Spectrum Disorders.

  1. All of our pupils feel comfortable and understood by one another in a Psychologically Inclusive environment that we provide them. We work with students of all ages.
  2. Need based evaluation and intervention program focused on functional life skills, Educational, and Daily living skills.
  3. Based on the circumstances and level of severity, we create a customized Education plan for the child. For three or four months, the child's IEP plan outlines the learning objectives we want them to achieve. We employ a variety of teaching methods; for example, we focus on the Academic portion of the lesson if the child is educable and vice versa.
  4. Using instructional tools like Real items, Flashcards, Storytelling exercises, etc., we assist the kids with differentiating and generalizing the information. We nurture children's skills and offer a space for Art and Craft projects.
  5. Following goal attainment, we create accomplishment reports, hold parent-teacher conferences, and talk about the future plan.
  6. A highly skilled Special Educator assists kids in overcoming obstacles.
  7. We routinely hold counseling sessions and workshops, and we keep the Parents and Caregivers updated.
  8. We conduct School Readiness Programs to prepare these children for the Formal Education System.
