Narayan Medical College Hosts BRMICROCON 2025: Advancing Medical Microbiology Education
It is with immense pride that Gopal Narayan Singh University announces the successful hosting of BRMICROCON 2025, the 2nd Annual Conference of the Indian Association of Medical Microbiology (IAMM) – Bihar State Chapter, by Narayan Medical College & Hospital (NMCH), Jamuhar, Sasaram. This prestigious state-level academic conference, held on December 13–14, 2025, with a Pre-Conference Workshop on December 12, 2025, at the Deo Mangal Sabhagar within the GNSU campus, marked a significant milestone in advancing clinical microbiology education and its real-world applications.
Shri Gopal Narayan Singh, Chancellor of Gopal Narayan Singh University and former Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), inaugurated BRMICROCON 2025, emphasizing the critical role of microbiology in modern medical science, a relevance profoundly highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic. He stressed that accurate diagnosis is fundamental to effective treatment and lauded such academic forums for keeping medical professionals abreast of emerging research and diagnostic advancements. He extended his gratitude to the IAMM Bihar Chapter for entrusting NMCH with the conference.
The inauguration commenced with a ceremonial lamp lighting and felicitation of dignitaries, including Prof. Dr. Jagdish Singh (Vice-Chancellor, GNSU), Prof. Dr. Mahendra Kumar Singh (Advisor to the Chancellor), Shri Govind Narayan Singh (Pro-Chancellor), Prof. Dr. Hira Lal Mahto (Principal, NMCH), and Prof. Dr. Punit Kumar Singh (Medical Superintendent, NMCH), all of whom shared their insights on the conference's academic and institutional importance.
Dr. Ashwini Kumar, Organising Secretary, BRMICROCON 2025, delivered the welcome address, followed by a vote of thanks from Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Co-Organising Secretary. They acknowledged the unwavering support from the university leadership, the IAMM Bihar Chapter, faculty members, speakers, and participants.
Key office bearers of the IAMM Bihar Chapter prominently associated with the event included Prof. Dr. Namrata Kumari (President, IAMM Bihar Chapter; HOD, Microbiology, IGIMS Patna) and Dr. Priyanka Narayan (Secretary, IAMM Bihar Chapter; PMCH Patna). The dedicated organizing team comprised Prof. Dr. R. K. Srivastava (Organising Chairman, BRMICROCON 2025 & Head, Department of Microbiology, NMCH), Dr. Ashwini Kumar (Organising Secretary), Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar (Co-Organising Secretary), and Dr. Ravindra Kumar Barnawal (Treasurer).
The Pre-Conference Workshop on “Surveillance of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs),” coordinated by Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar and Dr. Ashwini Kumar, focused on audit-based infection control practices. Expert sessions were delivered by renowned professionals such as Dr. Asim Sarfraz (AIIMS Patna), Dr. Ketan Priyadarshi (AIIMS Deoghar), Dr. Amarjeet Kumar (AIIMS Patna), and Dr. Abhishek Sengupta (Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine), alongside Dr. Ravindra Kumar Barnawal (NMCH, Jamuhar).
The main conference, themed “From Microscopy to Genomics: Advancing Microbiology to Meet the Challenges of the Modern Era,” featured insightful scientific deliberations by eminent speakers including Prof. Dr. Mukesh Kumar (NSMCH Bihta), Prof. Dr. Namrata Kumari (IGIMS Patna), Dr. Priyanka Narain (PMCH Patna), Prof. Dr. Tuhina Banerjee (IMS BHU Varanasi), Prof. Dr. Manoj Kumar (RIMS Ranchi), Prof. Dr. Shailesh Kumar (IGIMS Patna), and Prof. Dr. Dipmala Das (MGMMC Kishanganj). A multidisciplinary panel discussion coordinated by Dr. Kumar Saurabh (IGIMS Patna) further enriched the academic discourse.
The conference concluded with a Valedictory Function, featuring a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar and a vote of thanks by Dr. Ashwini Kumar, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of all involved. Prof. Dr. Namrata Kumari formally concluded BRMICROCON 2025.
